yep it is fine
but don’t try to camp at them for too long or you will be moved on
i have never had a problem with sleeping overnight at rest stops except for trucks stopping & starting they make a bit of noise at times
If you’re in the outback you can pretty much pull off the road for 100 metres or so (as long as you have a 4wd) and have a rest there. If you are feeling uncomfortable just lock your doors, but it’s pretty safe.
Otherwise, it’s fine to use the reststops. But as another poster said – the trucks can be a bit annoying which is why some people just pull off the road and have a rest.

Are you familiar with Wolf Creek?
Hell no!! Well if you can possibly avoid it (plan to go at a popular petrol station or something) – then avoid it!! Only if desperate!
