I intend to backpack in Australia and buy my stuff over there. I need to know which company(ies)/store(s)/brand(s) you can suggest me.

you will possibly need to go to a camping or surplus store to find what you need .
Also some towns do not have back packer accomodation
i suggest when you arrive in Australia you go a big city and see if you
can find a booklet or magazine on listings of back packer accomodation.
You could look this up on the internet also, and print out a list .
